The Madness..
In JULY 2001, myself and 7 other unsuspecting people went on a canal
holiday, to the sunny water ways of oxfordshire. This was the main
inspiration for this website. Here's what happened...
The Diary
Saturday
We eventually arrived at our destination, after ignoring many sensible
road signs. On board we went with 7 crates of beer, much to the apprehension
of the boats owners. After a quick briefing, and a not so quick 3 point turn
we were on our way. The evening finished with a pleasant meal at a pub (The
Railway Inn?) and then a game of Trivial Pursuit. Hmm.
Sunday
After throughly improving our Lock skills, and learning it's just not
sensible to motor along at top speed, we finally settled down for our
first Bar-B-Q, which was of course a resounding success.
Monday
Banbury for lunch and the Folly pub for dinner. A Game of football,
with neil showing off his true red card skills. Now the Folly pub
did a great line in Pies, enjoyed by all from what I remember! A return
here was well in order.
Tuesday
Another random pub somewhere, with stunning service, from a lady who
seemed convinced she was the mother of everyone. Many a comedy game of pool
was held too, before a walk back in the dark down some v. dodgy steps. Umm.
Wednesday
The second evening at the Folly pub including a game of cricket. How
very gentlemanly. Rather.. Much sleeping on the grass in the sun was
had by a certain lazy few, the joys of being on holiday!!!
Thursday
The evening at yet another random pub, before staying up till 7.30am.
Clearly an uneventfull day as I have no idea what we did.. Help anyone?
Friday
Another brief visit to banbury, and most of the day in bed for myself.
In the evening we had another BBQ, with several night time walks had, to
see how far we had to go, and which cows could be pushed over.
Saturday
After an hour or two of cruising and frantic cleaning we returned the boat.
All in all a top holiday had by everyone!
